A commitment to employee mental health and wellbeing
The American Psychological Association’s 2023 Work in America Survey revealed that mental health and psychological wellbeing are top priorities for employees. Consider the fact that 92% of workers say an organization that values their emotional and psychological wellbeing and provides proactive support is important to them.¹ Likewise, additional reports show organizations that support mental wellbeing can realize greater employee satisfaction and retention. More specifically, 83% of highly satisfied workers said they have no intention of changing jobs, and those who use employer-sponsored mental health benefits rated their wellbeing 51% higher than those who do not use these benefits.
Agero supports more than 30,000 drivers daily with solutions for a range of situations, including roadside assistance, accident management, and driving customer repair businesses. Agero regards its employees, who provide these services, as its greatest asset. The company continuously invests in fostering an environment where every voice is heard, every individual is treated with respect, and every opportunity is accessible to all.
At Agero, employee experience is built upon a foundation of workplace wellbeing, guided by four key principles:
- Create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment;
- Support employees’ mental, physical, and financial wellbeing;
- Empower employees to shape company wellness efforts; and
- Measure employee wellbeing in multiple dimensions.
Find a mental health and wellbeing solution for a diverse workforce with unique needs
Agero has approximately 1,500 employees, and while most primarily work from remote locations within the United States, Canada, and the U.K., there are two physical offices in Medford, Massachusetts (headquarters) and Clarksville, Tennessee. During the COVID-19 pandemic, which upended companies around the world, the People Team at Agero dedicated itself to adapting its workplace to the changing needs of employees. This included developing a new hybrid working model to ensure employees could work in a place they felt safe and most productive. The team also added a dedicated site on their employee intranet, “the HUB,” focused on health and wellbeing resources, and they created a related Slack channel so employees could connect with and inspire each other.
During this difficult time, Agero recognized its employees would benefit from mental health support and searched for a solution to fill the gap. However, the ideal solution needed to address the needs of a diverse workforce, including corporate employees and call center agents who provide 24/7 coverage. Because employees are geographically spread out, Agero wanted to ensure that a new solution would be easy to use, accessible to all employees at any time, and customizable to the individual needs of employees.
LifeSpeak offers easy digital access that meets the diverse needs of all employees
Agero chose LifeSpeak to deliver mental health and wellbeing education and support through thousands of expert-led, micro-learning videos and related digital content.
“LifeSpeak supports the company’s dedication to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace,” said Kerilynn Pajer, VP of Business Partnerships and Change Initiatives at Agero. “The platform offers employees and their families a wide variety of accessible content that caters to individual needs. This ensures that all employees, including those working remotely, have access to mental health and wellbeing resources at any time, anywhere.”
Agero’s wellbeing program thrives on collaboration between the People Team and employees. “Agero fosters an environment where authenticity is valued, encouraging employees to be themselves,” said Pajer. “Employee Listening is the cornerstone of our program, ensuring that actions taken address both employee and business needs.”
Paige Proto, Internal Communications and Culture Associate at Agero, adds, “LifeSpeak provides us with analytics that highlight the types of content most frequently utilized by our associates. We take that data to further build upon those interests by uploading additional resources to the HUB, as well as feature them in our monthly newsletter.”
The People Team also accesses LifeSpeak analytics on a quarterly and annual basis to inform its content reviews each year and guide decisions in selecting new library content.
Recognizing the importance of mental health support, the People Team at Agero developed a true partnership with LifeSpeak and built a robust and impressive mental health program. “LifeSpeak provided a platform for mental health awareness and encouraged us to acknowledge its significance in our lives. It emphasized the importance of prioritizing mental health for self care,” Pajer said.
The People Team collaborates closely with LifeSpeak account manager, Michelle, in developing its mental health and wellbeing offerings. Michelle and the team work together on monthly campaigns, then develop corresponding newsletters, and upload related information on the HUB and in the Slack channel.
“LifeSpeak offers exceptional customer support,” said Pajer. “We work with Michelle on campaigns, and leverage her expertise to curate content on specific topics in real time. For instance, during particularly stressful periods, we may request that Michelle compile resources on stress management or navigating trauma. We request resources that address events outside of work that impact our employees, such as social injustice and global issues. We also ask for resources on topics of interest to us, like Global Diversity Awareness Month or Pride Month. LifeSpeak recently provided excellent content on supporting the LGBTQIA+ community for Pride Month.”
